As the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001 approaches, Disney is set to shine a spotlight on the indomitable spirit that emerged in the face of tragedy. With a comprehensive lineup across ABC News, National Geographic, Disney+, Hulu, and local TV stations, Disney aims to honor the victims, their families, and the heroes who risked everything that day. The media giant's programming will be anchored by a live national broadcast from ABC News and WABC-TV New York, as well as a poignant original documentary from National Geographic. In collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Disney will delve into the stories of courage, compassion, and resilience that defined the aftermath of the attacks. Disney joins other major media outlets in their remembrance efforts. CBS News, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, and NBC News are also set to air special programming commemorating the anniversary. In a poignant move, National Geographic will launch "9/11 Reunited," a three-part docuseries on August 21. The series reunites first responders and witnesses with people they helped or worked alongside during those fateful hours. Many of these emotional reunions will mark the first time in 25 years. Each episode will be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the day after it airs on linear TV. Disney's efforts extend beyond television, as ABC will air a two-hour primetime special led by "Good Morning America" co-anchor Michael Strahan. The special explores how sports, music, Broadway, media, and comedy helped the nation heal in the aftermath of the attacks. The special will air on ABC, stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu, and culminate in an encore simulcast on September 11. ABC's coverage will also include "9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan," a one-hour live special that reflects on the lasting impact of September 11, 2001, and commemorates the resilience of survivors, families, first responders, and communities affected by the attacks. The program will culminate with "Tribute in Light," a public art installation that has illuminated the New York City skyline every 9/11 since the attacks. "Today, 100 million Americans are too young to remember 9/11 themselves," said Beth Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. "This special will reach across generations to commemorate, educate, and inspire — and to uphold our promise to never forget."
