The entertainment world is in mourning after Colombian social media sensation Sofia Murillo tragically lost her life in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 17-year-old influencer, along with her mother Wendy Manrique and grandmother Rocio Cubillos, were on board a four-seat aircraft operated by local tour agency Voo Panorâmico near the scenic Vista Chinesa outlook on August 8. According to CNN Brasil, authorities from Rio de Janeiro's Civil Police and the Brazilian Air Force have launched investigations into the incident, as flames raged through the dense woodland following the crash. Military personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene. Lieutenant Colonel Fábio Contreiras explained the difficulties facing rescue teams: "The aircraft crashed in a steep, heavily wooded area with sheer cliffs. Accessing and exiting the site is a challenge due to these conditions, requiring rope techniques and safety equipment." Firefighters were able to eventually quell the blaze. The main focus now, as Lieutenant Colonel Contreiras told g1, is locating quicker access routes for the Civil Police and Cenipa forensics teams, as well as facilitating the removal of the victims' remains. A spokesperson for Voo Panorâmico has stated that the company held all necessary permits to operate in the area at the time of the accident, with the aircraft's maintenance current and the pilot fully licensed.
