Joseph and Kendra Duggar's Legal Woes Ease With New Court Agreement

After a tumultuous few months, reality TV stars Joseph and Kendra Duggar are one step closer to putting their legal troubles behind them. In an agreement signed off by the Elm Springs District Court in Tontitown, Arkansas, on August 10, the couple faces the possibility of having their child endangerment and false imprisonment charges dismissed within a year, provided they adhere to specific conditions. The terms of the plea bargain require Joseph, 31, and Kendra, 27, to maintain good behavior, abide by all court orders, and comply with directives from the Arkansas Department of Human Services for the next twelve months. The pair will also be required to pay fines totaling $1,850. The couple opted to skip their scheduled court appearance on August 10, as they withdrew their not guilty pleas and submitted pleas by order to the court instead. This move allowed them to enter either a guilty or no contest plea without admitting guilt outright. A review hearing is set for August 4, 2027, at which point the charges could potentially be dropped if both parties have complied with the terms of the agreement. Us Weekly reached out to attorneys for Kendra and Joseph, as well as the prosecuting attorney, for comment on the matter. Back in March, Joseph and Kendra found themselves facing four counts each of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree and four counts each of false imprisonment in the second degree. The charges stemmed from a search and safety inspection of their home conducted by the Tontitown Police Department and the Arkansas Department of Human Services, which followed Joseph's arrest on child molestation charges earlier in the month. The inspection reportedly uncovered locks installed on the exteriors of their four children's bedroom doors, prompting the charges against the couple. Kendra pleaded not guilty and was released on a $1,470 bond shortly after her arrest. An initial no-contact order was placed between Kendra and her alleged victims; however, in April, a judge granted her lawyer's request to lift this order. Joseph, meanwhile, pleaded not guilty to the child endangerment charges in April and subsequently requested a no-contact order be lifted so he could see his children. The judge denied his request for unsupervised contact with the children, stipulating that supervised contact was permissible. Prior to their current legal predicament, Joseph faced separate charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim under 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior committed by an individual aged 18 or older. These allegations stemmed from an incident in which he is said to have inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation in Florida. After his extradition to Florida, Joseph pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial. He was later released on a $600,000 bond and returned to Arkansas. The alleged victim, now 14, has faced the situation with remarkable courage, a source exclusively told Us Weekly in April. "It took a lot for her to come forward, but she is not scared," the source said. "She is strong. She doesn't want to hide."
