Ava Phillippe's Heartfelt Advice on Managing Anxiety: Every Teen Needs to Hear This

In an open and honest conversation about mental health, Ava Phillippe - daughter of Hollywood powerhouse Reese Witherspoon and actor Ryan Phillippe - has shared her personal journey with anxiety. Using her platform to shed light on a topic that often goes unaddressed, Ava has become a beacon for young people navigating similar challenges. In a poignant World Mental Health Day video on Instagram, Ava revealed her dream of becoming a therapist to help children deal with their emotions. She attributed this desire to "some incredible mental health professionals and therapists who truly transformed my life" during her own childhood. During a 2023 Instagram Q&A, Ava bravely admitted to battling anxiety throughout her life. She emphasized the importance of acknowledging feelings without self-judgment as a crucial step towards healing. "Don't dismiss your emotions," she wrote. "You have every right to feel what you do, even if it seems peculiar to others, and berating yourself won't alleviate your discomfort or provide a solution." To help ground herself in difficult moments, Ava recommended deep breathing exercises and using the five senses to stay present. "Focus on one-three things you can smell, touch, hear, etc., right now... And remember, this feeling will pass, even if you must endure it for a while." Apart from her personal battle with anxiety, Ava has openly discussed a habit of skin picking, acknowledging the temptation but admitting that it becomes easier to manage as she grows older. Joining forces with the Kids Mental Health Foundation, Ava advocates for the Take Five campaign, encouraging adults to spend at least five minutes checking in on the children in their lives. "We should all take time to check in on those closest to us and gauge how they're feeling, especially during formative years," she said. Her message underscores the need for open communication. "It's crucial to bring these issues into the open and discuss feelings, even if they seem nonsensical or awkward, to make time for your emotions because they matter." Reese Witherspoon, who has openly discussed her own struggles with anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, praised her daughter in a comment under the post, writing "Beautifully said" followed by a heart emoji. Witherspoon has been candid about her battles with mental health, revealing that both her grandmother Dorothea Draper and mother warned her of the genetic risk of depression. She experienced depression as a teenager and again after Ava's birth in 1999.
