In an interview with The Telegraph, the talented actress Bel Powley, who will star as Aunt Petunia Dursley in the upcoming HBO adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved book series, expressed her disagreement with Rowling's controversial stance on transgender issues. "I wholeheartedly disagree with J.K. Rowling's views regarding gender identity," Powley declared. "The trans community deserves respect, acceptance, and the basic human rights that every individual should have." Despite her personal beliefs, Powley, 34, remains a devoted fan of the Harry Potter franchise. "I grew up with the books, and I will always cherish my love for the magic and enchantment they brought into my life," she shared. Rowling, who serves as an executive producer on the show, has faced backlash for her trans-related statements over the years. In 2025, the 61-year-old author published a contentious essay criticizing several Harry Potter actors who signed a pro-trans open letter following the UK Supreme Court's ruling that the terms "woman" and "sex" refer exclusively to biological women and sex.
