Brad Pitt Speaks Up on His Return to Drinking After Seven Years of Sobriety: "He's Found a Balance"

In a candid revelation, Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt has admitted to resuming his drinking habit after seven years of abstinence. The move, Pitt claims, comes from a place of self-awareness and personal growth. "This is a deeply personal choice that Brad has made for himself and his circumstances," an insider dished exclusively to us. "He's had plenty of time to reflect on his relationship with alcohol, and at some point, he felt ready to make a change." The source continued, "Brad understands the importance of moderation and is mindful of his limits. He knows what works for him and has adopted a more restrained approach to drinking." The Academy Award-winning actor's decision to drink again does not diminish the time he spent sober or the lessons he learned during that period, the source emphasized. "This is simply a choice Brad feels is right for him at this moment in his life, and he's committed to doing it responsibly." A representative for Pitt did not immediately respond to our request for comment. During an exclusive interview with Esquire published on Monday, Pitt revealed that he had resumed drinking. When offered a glass of wine during their conversation at the actor's $12 million Los Angeles home, Pitt was questioned about his sobriety. "No, I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon," Pitt candidly admitted. However, he clarified that he now drinks in a more controlled manner, having learned that overindulgence does not suit him. "I got overconfident a couple of times, went 'Yep, nope, not good for me,'" he said, adding that he avoids drinking "in large quantities." Pitt explained that he can enjoy a few drinks but cannot consume a lot. "I have to be professional about it," he concluded. In June 2025, during an appearance on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Pitt shared his experience of attending his first AA meeting during a challenging phase in his life. "I was pretty much on my knees, and I was really open," he said at the time. Pitt stopped drinking following his 2016 split from Angelina Jolie, 51. The former couple, who share six children—Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18—finalized their divorce in December 2024, concluding more than eight years of legal proceedings.
