Oprah Winfrey Clarifies Her Relationship with Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz Amid Controversy

In a recent interview with Emmy Magazine, media mogul Oprah Winfrey set the record straight regarding her professional relationship with Dr. Phil McGraw and Dr. Mehmet Oz, amidst growing criticism over their controversial stances. Oprah, who catapulted both men to television fame during her eponymous talk show's heyday, explained that their journey since then is a testament to their individual talents and choices, not hers.
Recalling the genesis of her association with Dr. Phil, Oprah reminisced about his assistance during a challenging legal battle in 1998 when she was sued by six Texas cattlemen over defamation claims related to beef industry practices. During this tumultuous period, Oprah enlisted Dr. Phil's help as a consultant for her legal team and found him to be pragmatic, relatable, and authentic.
Their daily car rides to the trial left such an impression on Oprah that she felt compelled to offer him a platform on her show, believing he could help many others. When it comes to Dr. Oz's entry into the limelight, Oprah attributed his introduction to her best friend, Gayle King, who had been impressed by his ability to explain complex medical topics in layman's terms.
Oprah was struck by his knack for breaking down subjects like colon cancer and bowel movements in a manner that resonated with everyday viewers. However, as both men have faced backlash for their political views and affiliations, particularly their support of President Trump, Oprah has made it clear that she is not associated with these controversies. In her words, "Every person has their own path in life, and I am not a part of theirs." Oprah reiterated that her primary intention during their early appearances on her show was to provide them with a platform, as she believed they would be beneficial for many viewers.
Both Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz have since become household names, hosting successful television shows and garnering large followings. While some critics have expressed disapproval of their political leanings, Oprah maintains that their actions post-Oprah are a reflection of their personal choices and not her influence.
