Race into the Future: Formula E Secures Global Deal with Disney+, Revolutionizing Electric Racing

Disney+ has secured a groundbreaking deal to stream Formula E racing events across more than 140 territories, marking a new era for electric vehicle technology. This partnership between Formula E and the entertainment giant promises to bring the thrilling world of electric racing to millions of viewers worldwide. In the United States, Formula E events will now air on ESPN+ (formerly known as ESPN Select). The strategic partnership with Disney+ enables Formula E to maintain its local broadcast TV agreements in key markets, providing a win-win situation for both parties. Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, expressed his excitement about the collaboration: "This is an historic moment for Formula E. Disney's unparalleled global reach and storytelling will introduce our championship to millions of new fans while offering an unprecedented level of access to the drama, innovation, and electrifying action of electric racing." Formula E made its debut in 2014 and has since been gaining momentum as a standalone racing league separate from Formula 1. The upcoming season will feature the GEN4 electric vehicle, which Formula E describes as "the fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car ever built." This sleek machine boasts an impressive 600 kilowatts of power, equivalent to over 815 horsepower, and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds – roughly 30% faster than a Formula 1 car. Formula E is planning a 21-race calendar for the 2026-27 season, beginning with Rounds 1 and 2 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Dec. 18-19, and concluding in July in Tokyo. Dodds highlighted the potential of this partnership with Disney, given its extensive network of consumer relationships around the globe. "As we enter the GEN4 era, Disney+ offers an exceptional platform to accelerate our global growth and continue building one of the world's most exciting sports properties," Dodds said. "We are also excited about the opportunity to explore additional ways for Formula E and Disney to collaborate, creating innovative and engaging experiences for fans in the years ahead." Michaella Snoeck, Formula E's Chief Media Officer, underscored the importance of maintaining local linear TV partnerships alongside Disney's streaming rights. "This agreement reflects the global demand for Formula E," she said. "Disney's unprecedented scale complements our valued linear TV broadcast network, allowing us to serve core markets locally while accelerating our digital footprint globally and bringing our fans closer to the action than ever before." The partnership between Disney+ and Formula E underscores the demand for live sporting events, which are seen as must-watch television that keeps streaming subscribers engaged month after month. The series' commitment to sustainability and its status as a for-profit B corporation dedicated to maximizing social responsibility aligns perfectly with Disney's brand values. Joe Earley, Co-President of Direct to Consumer for Disney Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "Formula E combines world-class competition, groundbreaking technology, and sustainability in a way that's unlike any other sport. We're excited to help power the championship's next chapter on Disney+ and to give fans around the globe front row access to every adrenaline-fueled race as it happens." Get ready for an electrifying ride as Formula E teams up with Disney+, bringing exhilarating electric racing action straight to your screens.
