Tyga's $TARFACE Album Meets Unprecedented Criticism with a Staggering 0/10 Pitchfork Rating

In an unexpected turn of events, hip-hop artist Tyga's latest album, $TARFACE, has stirred up a storm of controversy following its release. The album received a rare and brutal 0/10 rating from esteemed music publication Pitchfork, marking it as one of the lowest-rated albums in the platform's history. The scathing review, penned by Drew Miller, branded the record "slop pop" and described it as "smug, complacent, and depressing." Miller went on to assert that the album's very existence was detrimental to the musical landscape, a harsh blow indeed for the beleaguered artist. Miller's criticism of Tyga took a more pointed turn when he addressed the rapper's admission of using artificial intelligence (AI) in his project. Miller joked that he could generate a song identical to $TARFACE if an AI-generated track included lyrics about critiquing a Tyga album. In a recent interview with Vibe, Tyga had admitted to utilizing AI as a tool, stating that it represented the future of music technology. However, this assertion clashes with his previous claims made in an interview with People, where he insisted that all the tools used in $TARFACE were remnants from the '80s. As Miller delved deeper into the album's shortcomings, he noted the lack of human emotion and breath in Tyga's vocals, as well as similarities between $TARFACE and Fenix Flexin's song "Rubberz," which is rumored to have employed AI elements. Miller also called out the music industry for its alleged exploitation of AI-generated music as a means to circumvent paying songwriters and session musicians for their craft. The critic concluded that Tyga's $TARFACE was "smug and complacent, an amalgamation of '80s synth-pop and disco thrown together by someone who seems to have never truly appreciated the artistry of either genre." Despite the album's dismal rating, Tyga can claim a unique distinction: he is one of only a select few artists to ever receive a zilch from Pitchfork.
