In a surprising turn of events, the highly anticipated cop drama 'American Blue', starring Milo Ventimiglia, has hit a roadblock at HBO Max. The streaming giant had initially greenlit two pilot dramas along with 'How to Survive Without Me', both planned under the cost-effective model adopted from 'The Pitt'. Sources close to the production have revealed that 'How to Survive Without Me' remains in contention for a series order at HBO Max.

Meanwhile, 'American Blue', which boasted an impressive ensemble cast including Kelly Jenrette, Carlito Olivero, and Algee Smith, among others, has faced a setback. The show followed Ventimiglia's character, Brian "Milk" Milkovich, a troubled police officer returning to his hometown of Joliet, Illinois, to revitalize the struggling police force while seeking redemption for his own past.

The pilot was helmed by director David Ayer and executive producers Jeremy Carver, Brian Udovich, Neil Reynolds, and Ventimiglia himself. Warner Bros. Television, where Carver holds an overall deal, produced the pilot. According to reports, the studio is now shopping the pilot around to other networks in search of a new home for this gritty drama. Deadline initially broke the news of 'American Blue' being shelved at HBO Max.
