Olivia Munn Opens Up About Her Ongoing Breast Cancer Journey: 'In the Long Hurdle'

Actress and activist Olivia Munn has bravely shared an intimate update on her breast cancer journey, revealing that she is currently navigating the "long hurdles" of treatment and recovery. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Munn, 46, expressed her eagerness to address the questions surrounding her health, stating, "I've wanted to respond to everyone's inquiries about my breast cancer journey for quite some time now." Known for her candor and advocacy, Munn announced this will be the first installment in a series of videos she plans to share.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, Munn chose to keep her battle private until the following year. However, in an effort to offer hope and support to others experiencing similar challenges, Munn decided to go public with her story. "Every time I felt lost at the start of my journey, I would search online and see another woman discussing it," she said, "and that gave me a glimmer of hope that things would be okay." Asked about her current state, Munn shared that she is doing well overall, but acknowledged that cancer patients often experience daily fluctuations in their health.

"Some days you feel like you're really on an upswing," she explained, "and then there are other times when it feels incredibly difficult — like this is still so hard." Munn also shared her multifaceted challenges, balancing her health issues with caring for her two young children and supporting her husband John Mulaney as he works. The couple shares a son Malcolm, 4, and a daughter Mei, who was born via gestational surrogate in October 2022.

Speaking about the medical side of her treatment, Munn explained that she underwent surgical menopause, which resulted in an instant menopause, and is also taking aromatase inhibitors to manage estrogen levels in her body. "These medications are very challenging," she admitted. Munn concluded her video by expressing excitement for continuing her series, stating that posting the initial video has lifted a significant burden from her shoulders and promising to address any questions moving forward.

"I heard that after I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and it turned out to be true," Munn said, "The sisterhood I've found of women who have battled/are currently battling the same fight are the most incredible, generous, supportive people I've ever met. I've spoken a lot publicly about every step I've taken on this path, and I still get lots of questions.
