The Untold Story Behind Perez Hilton's Darkest Night: A Sister's Perspective

In an exclusive interview with Page Six, Perez Hilton's sister Barbara Lavandeira has revealed harrowing details about the night her brother live-streamed a troubling video that led to his hospitalization. "I didn't recognize my brother that night," Lavandeira shared. "His eyes held a strange gaze; they weren't the same. When he smiled at me, it was as if I were looking at a stranger." On August 4, Hilton broadcasted himself via TikTok, allegedly performing dangerous acts of self-harm.
The social media platform later banned his account for violating its terms of service, although a spokesperson acknowledged that human error allowed the stream to continue for over ten minutes. The Miami-Dade police confirmed they received calls regarding an individual live-streaming self-harm on social media and were dispatched to Hilton's Florida home, suspecting a possible suicide attempt.
Lavandeira described August 4 as one of the darkest days her family has ever experienced. She recounted a series of disturbing events that unfolded when she noticed Hilton had locked himself in his bedroom. "I knocked, and he said he was fine, but I could barely hear him," she remembered. "After several attempts to get a response, something felt terribly wrong." Eventually, Lavandeira managed to open the door and entered her brother's bathroom, where she discovered the extent of his injuries from the alleged self-harm acts.
In the aftermath, Lavandeira took immediate steps to secure Hilton's three children from the Miami residence. "I contacted the police and asked my best friend, who lived nearby, to come pick up the kids," she said. Hilton underwent surgery due to significant blood loss and additional injuries sustained during the traumatic livestream. Lavandeira has chosen not to disclose further details about her brother's injuries out of respect for his privacy.
She spoke out now, "to offer some clarity" amidst the sea of rumors and false reports circulating online. "I speak now for everyone who cares about him and sends their well-wishes," she noted. "There has been a flood of misinformation and misleading headlines, and I want to provide accurate details from someone who witnessed everything firsthand." Lavandeira also addressed the backlash her brother faced on social media, with some recalling past controversies caused by Hilton's blog.
"Comments calling this 'karma' have been particularly painful," she said. "I wouldn't wish what my family is going through on anyone... I ask for understanding and compassion as we navigate through these difficult times." Lavandeira emphasized her brother's transformation over the past 20 years, stressing his efforts to become a better person. "I don't believe someone should be defined by their worst actions in the past," she stated.
"Perez has changed significantly, and I hope people can recognize that." On August 12, Hilton's mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed court papers to secure temporary custody of the blogger's three children—Mario, Mia, and Mayte. According to Hilton's attorney, Natalie Guerra-Valdes, the objective is to protect the children and ensure their safety and sense of normalcy as they heal from the traumatic events.
