Dakota and Elle Fanning's "Heated Moment" on the Set of Their Epic Collaboration, "The Nightingale"

Dakota Fanning spilled the beans about the only on-set disagreement she and her sister Elle Fanning had during the filming of their highly anticipated movie, "The Nightingale," based on Kristin Hannah's bestselling novel. In an appearance on Tuesday's episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Dakota shared a playful anecdote from their time on set. "We were in this scorching hot room, and I was stuck to a couch with Elle," she began, chuckling at the memory. "I told her to move her leg because it felt like she had been there all day," Dakota recalled, "And she replied that she hadn't been there for long! I countered that she was sweating all over me and needed to get off!" The former child stars, who have shared screen time in films such as "I Am Sam" in 2001 and "My Neighbor Totoro" in 2005, had a unique dynamic on this project, with Dakota playing the older sister to Elle's younger version. "In our past collaborations, we shot separate scenes due to my character being portrayed by Elle as a younger version," Dakota explained. "This time, though, it was the first time we truly acted together." "The Nightingale" tells the compelling story of estranged sisters Vianne (Dakota) and Isabelle (Elle), navigating Nazi-occupied France during World War II through contrasting paths of quiet survival and active rebellion. Dakota admitted that she and Elle were "quietly apprehensive" about sharing scenes for the first time. "We didn't want to admit our nerves to each other," she explained. "We were both wondering if we'd crack up or struggle to keep it together." The actress also revealed that Elle had one specific request of her on set - to leave the big sister act at home. "I had to treat her like any other actor," Dakota explained, admitting that it was a challenge for her. "The Nightingale," directed by Michael Morris, is slated for release in US theaters on March 19, 2027.
