"Alice Chilton's Arrival: A New Era of Tough Coaching for AFC Richmond in 'Ted Lasso' Season 4"

As the fourth season of the beloved Apple TV+ comedy, 'Ted Lasso,' graces our screens, the introduction of Tanya Reynolds as Alice Chilton brings a fresh and formidable coaching style to AFC Richmond. Co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis offered Reynolds the role without providing a script, instead painting a vivid picture of Alice's personality. "Jason had given me a very detailed rundown of who she was and what her storyline was," says Reynolds. "Alice was so far removed from me, and it was a process of trying to figure out why she was so tough, why she was so cold and standoffish. I was trying to understand the psychology of that." Joining a series as popular as 'Ted Lasso' comes with its share of pressure, admits Reynolds. "It's really nerve-wracking to step into something that is so well-loved and try not to mess it up," she says. Created by Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly, 'Ted Lasso' has become one of Apple TV+'s biggest hits, earning numerous Emmy Awards and amassing over 25 billion minutes in views. Sharing the screen with Sudeikis and Hunt was like a "free comedy show," says Reynolds, yet it also presented challenges due to Chilton's stoic nature. "It was so fun. It meant that I had to keep a straight face, because Alice rarely cracks a smile," says Reynolds. "But Jason and Brendan would want to make me laugh. They would make me laugh so much, where I was just constantly biting my cheeks." Reynolds also stars alongside returning actors Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Swift, along with 'Ted Lasso' newcomers Abbie Hern, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, and Rex Hayes. "It's been a joy to go to work every day because everyone is so nice," says Reynolds. "Everyone is so grounded." Riley Tiernan, one of the players on the women's soccer team, adds, "It shows how women are really powerful. I think we're tougher than men."
