Bloys Basks in HBO's Emmy Triumph, Unveils Plans for "The Pitt," and Addresses Merger Uncertainty

Casey Bloys, the maestro of HBO, found himself in a celebratory mood on Wednesday, with the network raking in an impressive 122 Emmy nominations - a testament to his successful tenure at the helm. The accolades were particularly noteworthy for standout shows like "The Pitt" and "Hacks." However, amidst the triumph, there's a looming question mark: the impending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance. With uncertainty surrounding HBO's future, Bloys remains optimistic, praising his team for their exceptional work and artistic collaborations. In an exclusive interview with us, Bloys discussed the triumph of "The Pitt," breaking records with "Hacks," the surprise success of "DTF St. Louis," and the future of shows like "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" and "It: Welcome to Derry." He also addressed the rumors of potential regret over his supposed "Heated Rivalry" and shared insights into his own future post-merger, albeit cautiously. "I'm marking ten years in this position, and I just think it's such a great validation for the team for how they develop, produce, who they choose to get in business with," Bloys said, beaming with pride. "Emmys are not the only metric of success, but it's certainly a really nice indicator of quality." Bloys was particularly thrilled about "The Pitt," which offered a much-needed boost to Hollywood's beleaguered production community. The show, created by Paul W. Downs, Jen Statsky, and Lucia Aniello, ended its five-season run on a high note, earning critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nods. "I was so thrilled for them," Bloys shared. "Doing a good show is hard enough, but to end a show after five seasons, to stick the landing and go out on a high note is incredibly hard to do. I just think that Paul, Jen, and Lucia showed how it's done." Bloys confirmed that they have been in conversations with the creators about their future projects. While he was tight-lipped about the details, he expressed excitement about their potential plans. "I don't want to reveal too much because I don't know how much they've put out there," he admitted. "But needless to say, we're lucky to be in business with them." Bloys also shed light on the success of "DTF St. Louis," a show that he believes showcases an original take on male friendship. He praised creator Steve Conrad for his unique vision and talent. "It goes deep on male friendship, which I don't think you see a lot of people doing," Bloys said. "I was thrilled to see not only Steve but the cast get recognized." The merger talk lingered over the conversation, with Bloys expressing optimism about keeping his team intact. However, he cautioned that details cannot be discussed until after the close of the deal. "It would be nice to keep this group intact," he said. "We'll just have to see what the future holds." As we wrap up the conversation, Bloys reiterated his pride in the team, their work, and HBO's continued success. "I'm really proud of the team, how long we've been together, how well we work together," he said. "We talk a lot about the programming team, but it's also the production team. Over the course of HBO history, we've produced 150 shows that we've made ourselves." With the Emmy nominations serving as a shining testament to Bloys' vision and HBO's success, fans can only hope for more groundbreaking content in the future. The road ahead may be uncertain, but one thing is clear: HBO continues to set the bar high.
