Nicole Kidman Reflects on Her Youthful Marriage to Tom Cruise: "Fell Madly in Love"

In an intimate interview with British Vogue, published August 13, Nicole Kidman reminisced about her whirlwind romance with ex-husband Tom Cruise. The 59-year-old actress, who met Cruise on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990, admitted that their marriage felt "completely natural." Kidman and Cruise, now 64, tied the knot later that same year, and shared two children during their eight-year union.

Their divorce was finalized in 2001. Speaking about those early days, Kidman recounted, "We just fell madly in love, and it was that simple." The actress recalled how some people warned her that her career would suffer due to the high-profile marriage, but she didn't let that deter her. "I don’t care. I’m in love," Kidman said. "Then, I was his ‘wife’ and they were like, ‘See, we told you.’" Post-divorce, Kidman went on to enjoy a successful Hollywood career, eventually finding love with country singer Keith Urban.

The couple married in 2006 but separated in 2025, finalizing their divorce in January of this year. While she didn't delve into the specifics of the split, Kidman hinted that she was still navigating her new normal. "I’ve approached my whole life like that," she shared. "That’s just who I am. I don’t overthink things and I’m probably not that analytical... I lead with my heart." Kidman acknowledged that she didn't anticipate divorcing Urban, but is now ready to embrace a new chapter.

"I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now," she stated. "You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not." Tom Cruise, who was married to Katie Holmes from 2006 to 2012, remains single.
