Nicole Kidman Reveals Her Unwavering Love for Tom Cruise Led Her to Prioritize Relationship Over Career

In an intimate interview with British Vogue, Nicole Kidman opened up about her marriage to Tom Cruise three decades ago and how her love for him overshadowed her career ambitions. Reflecting on their whirlwind romance that began when they met on the set of "Days of Thunder," Kidman, now 59, admitted, "I was so young and suddenly found myself married to a huge movie star." The marriage, which took place in 1990 at the age of 23, seemed natural to her at the time.
"We just fell madly in love," she shared. However, people warned her that her career would be affected by their union. But Kidman, with her heart on fire, declared, "I didn't care. I was in love. I wanted to get married." Kidman and Cruise, 64, share two adopted children, Isabella, born in 1992, and Connor, born in 1995. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2001.
Despite the tumultuous breakup, Kidman experienced a surge in her career, reaching new heights with the success of "Moulin Rouge!" In hindsight, Kidman acknowledged that she threw herself into work following their divorce as a means to cope with the personal upheaval. She shared at the 2015 Women in the World summit, "I wasn't able to handle the reality of my life...
As an actor, you have this wonderful thing where you can go and get lost in somebody else’s life and become somebody else for a period of time." Kidman found love again with Keith Urban, whom she married in 2006. They are parents to two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, born in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The couple announced their separation last year after nearly two decades of marriage, finalizing their divorce in January.
Comparing her two divorces, Kidman admitted that navigating a new relationship is never easy, stating, "It's all new... Every time!" She also acknowledged that she has grown more comfortable with the public scrutiny on her personal life, having been thrust into it at such a young age due to her marriage to Cruise. Reflecting on her current romantic situation, Kidman hinted at a new relationship with private equity investor Michael Reinstein but confirmed that she is embracing love in this chapter of her life.
