AOC Shuts Down Critics Over Egg-Freezing Decision with a Sassy Clap Back

In the face of criticism over her recent decision to freeze her eggs, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has responded with her signature wit and charm. During an Instagram Q&A on August 12th, the New York congresswoman playfully quipped back at a supporter who encouraged her to ignore the "idiotic Republican men" commenting negatively about her. With a radiant smile, Ocasio-Cortez confidently declared, "They hate me 'cause they ain't me, and they can't ever be me." The politician's decision to freeze her eggs has been met with criticism regarding her career aspirations and age, but she remained undeterred.
Addressing more questions during the Instagram Q&A, Ocasio-Cortez elaborated on why egg-freezing was a personal choice for her. "The answer is yes, I am young enough to have kids traditionally," she stated. "But what people may not realize about egg-freezing is that it's often used for second or third children, or for those who wish to space out their children or start their families later in life." Ocasio-Cortez went on to explain the importance of open discussions about reproductive health and the lack of education women receive throughout various stages of their lives.
"We as women are not taught enough about our bodies, from puberty through pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, and beyond," she said. The congresswoman, who reportedly ended her engagement earlier this year, revealed that freezing her eggs was a decision made to feel more in control of her life and future family plans. In a previous social media post on August 8th, Ocasio-Cortez shared her reasons for choosing egg-freezing, stating, "I want to share this because I was weighing it for a very long time, and I think there just isn't a ton out there about it.
Sometimes it can feel very daunting, and as women in general, we are not taught about our bodies." The controversy surrounding Ocasio-Cortez's egg-freezing decision is yet another example of the congresswoman's ability to handle criticism with grace and humor while continuing to advocate for important issues.
