Shifting Tides at DC Studios: Waller and Wonder Woman Prequel Projects Sidelined

In a surprising turn of events, two highly anticipated television productions have taken a backseat at DC Studios. According to Variety, the Amanda Waller standalone series with Viola Davis and the prequel to Wonder Woman titled "Paradise Lost," are no longer in active development. The news comes as a surprise given the excitement surrounding both projects. "Waller" had initially been reported back in May 2022, while "Paradise Lost" was unveiled as part of the initial slate of DC projects in January 2023, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Initially, "Waller" would have seen Viola Davis reprise her role as the formidable character she portrayed in both David Ayer and Gunn's Suicide Squad films. "Paradise Lost," on the other hand, was set to delve into the origins of Wonder Woman on Themyscira before her birth. It's important to note that neither project had been ordered to series. In a related development, the "Booster Gold" show announced in 2023 by Gunn and Safran is also on hold, as confirmed by series writer David Jenkins. Since taking the helm at DC Studios, Gunn and Safran have greenlit the upcoming HBO Green Lantern series "Lanterns" starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, and oversaw the launch of "The Penguin." However, it's important to note that "The Penguin" was picked up prior to their entry atop the DC Universe. They also launched the animated series "Creature Commandos," which is returning for a second season. In addition to these updates, DC Studios is currently working on a unique true crime mockumentary series featuring Skyler Gisondo reprising his Superman role as Jimmy Olson. The first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, with Jimmy Tatro stepping into the role of Grodd. Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault are set to serve as showrunners.
