Custody Battle Over Baby Born with Rare Heart Defect: Parents Reunited With Their Son Amidst Political Drama

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the biological parents of Gabriel - a baby born with a rare heart condition - have regained physical custody of their child. Lawyer Lee Budner, representing the family, shared this news with TMZ, stating that the couple's top priority remains their son's health and well-being. Budner added that the political drama surrounding the baby's birth has left his clients devastated.
"The heartbreak of Gabriel's condition is compounded by the transformation of our family tragedy into political theater by the Texas Attorney General's office and McKenna West," he said. Gabriel, who was born prematurely on September 1st, was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) during a 20-week scan. The birth agreement included a termination clause in case of any anomalies, but surrogate McKenna West opted to flee with the child instead, hoping to be recognized as the baby's mother by Texas authorities.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton obtained an emergency court order, mandating UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children's Medical Center of Dallas to provide life-saving care to Gabriel. The biological parents are now focusing on spending quality time with their child while ensuring he receives the critical medical attention needed for his recovery. This emotional custody battle serves as a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding surrogacy arrangements, and the importance of clear and comprehensive agreements between all parties involved.
