Travis Barker: Life's Timeline Mirrored 'Final Destination' After Plane Crash Ordeal

In an exclusive interview with People, Travis Barker opens up about the harrowing aftermath of his 2008 plane crash, revealing that he felt as though he was living in a real-life version of the horror film "Final Destination." After miraculously surviving the tragic accident alongside friend Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, four other lives were lost. The subsequent year proved to be an emotionally tumultuous one for Barker, as Goldstein succumbed to a drug overdose, leaving the musician grappling with his own trauma.
Barker shares that the horrific incident left him feeling as though death was relentlessly pursuing him, much like in the beloved horror franchise. "I couldn't shake the feeling that I was living in my very own 'Final Destination,'" he confesses. "The fear of sudden death was always looming over me." Struggling to cope with his friend's untimely demise and haunted by the memory of the plane crash, Barker found himself shying away from public life.
"I would go from my tour bus to the hotel, and no one would see me," he recalls. "I would just hide out. I was so afraid. I was just waiting for impact in the bus. I was just like, 'Oh, I'm next. I'm going to go anytime.'" While coming to terms with a friend's sudden death is never easy, Barker eventually realized that his friends would have wanted him to continue living his life rather than being consumed by fear.
His assistant, bodyguard, and the plane's two pilots were among those who perished in the crash, and it took several years for Travis to regain his confidence in flying again. Travis Barker's new documentary, "Louder Than Fear," makes its debut today on Hulu and Disney+, offering an intimate look into the drummer's life and career, as well as his harrowing experiences with tragedy and triumph.
With this powerful film, Barker invites fans to join him on a poignant journey of resilience and self-discovery.
